God vs Money
Why Passive Income is Essential to Serving God
For years, the Christian faith seemed to call for living a simple life, one where you learn to accept your limited finances. In God vs. Money: Why Passive Income is Essential to Serving God, Dr Edwin Lee explores the Scriptural basis behind many Christians’ relationships with money. Along the way, Edwin shares his financial journey and how he came to understand the importance of building passive income and its impact on his relationship with God.
If you are questioning living a life where you struggle to pay the bills, feeling that pursuing more money would contribute to a love of money, then you need to read God vs. Money. Edwin looks at the Scriptures and offers a deeper understanding of what the love of money is and how a lack of money can negatively impact that relationship with God.
Edwin shares how passive income can give you the freedom to create a deeper relationship with God and to explore opportunities that you might have missed because of a focus on providing for your loved ones. Chapter 3 – Master or Slave
In this chapter, the author asks if the reader is a master or a slave to money. The author explains that having a high paying job may still make one a slave to money, and for most people, this cycle gets perpetuated through the generations as parents teach their children to do the same thing, thereby enslaving generations.
Chapter 2 – The Usual Life Cycle
The author describes the usual life cycle of an individual of going to school, getting good grades to get a good job. The school system is designed to train people to become good employees, but not necessarily to be free people. This opening chapter describes the author’s life journey and his gratitude to the experiences and the mentors that he has been blessed to have along the way.
Chapter 5 – The Root of Evil
Money is not evil, it is the love of money that is the root of all evil. The author discusses that the fundamental cause of a love of money is a lack of money and that a lack mentality results in a poverty mindset which then causes a love of money – which is the root of evil.
Chapter 4 – The Sources of Money
There are many sources of money, employment being the most common source. There are also the sources from businesses or investments. This chapter explores the various sources and provides some suggested ways to generate income, including a simple way to calculate returns on investment. In today’s digital economy, there are now a lot more opportunities and the barriers to entry have been significantly lowered for budding entrepreneurs. The author warns however of not being caught in paralysis by over-analysis, and encourages the reader to take action instead of constantly finding the perfect opportunity that never exists.
Chapter 7 – God’s Original Design for Income
In this chapter, the author describes God’s original design for income for the nation of Israel, and how God’s original design was for passive and multiplying income through the use of farm plots. God’s original design was freedom, but when Israel strayed from the purpose, they entered into captivity and became slaves.
Chapter 6 – The Fruit Tree
In this chapter, the author describes starting a business by using the analogy of a fruit tree and how similar it is between growing a tree and a business. And just as a fruit tree eventually bears fruit season after season once it matures, a business once it reaches maturity will also produce passive income steadily for the business owner.
Chapter 8 – Breakthrough Thinking!
The author introduces a breakthrough thought in this chapter to address the seeming dilemma of wanting to serve God and still having to provide for the family. This breakthrough is in the understanding of how passive income truly sets one free and no longer serves money through a job but that money serves us passively through investments or businesses.

Chapter 9 – Chase Dreams, Not Money
Throughout the book, the discussion had been mostly on money and in this chapter, the author raises the bar and says that having money as the goal is too small. The author suggests that if we have for our goal the fulfillment of our dreams, then money no longer becomes the focus but money becomes the tool to help us get to the achievement of the dreams faster. Dreams then can become bigger and bigger and the impact one had on this world will become bigger as we dare to dream bigger for it is in God’s design for us to dream big for we are made in His image.
Chapter 10 – Eradicating Evil
In this final chapter, the author gives encouragement to the reader to not be afraid of failing, but to be persistent and focused in eradicating evil through the pursuit of building passive income streams and in so doing, help to become a blessing to the nations. The author also encourages the reader to find a mentor for the journey and to constantly be learning to be better.
